Ulrich Troyer hypnotic deep house with a twist Favorite track: Quality Time with Pele, Shanique, Nico & Nic.

Tadhg Byrne Real groove, dub and funk collide with great musicianship - I love everything about this.

Mr Scruff What a lovely surprise. Gavsborg is really spreading his musical wings at the moment, and these two slo-mo house tunes are real growers, with the trademark Equiknoxx sense of fun in full effect. The dreamy A-side is a floaty, loose jam, and the B side is straight up 1990 nu-groove with a spiky burrell/konders style bassline & new jersey organ riffs. Ace! Favorite track: Quality Time with Frankie Bubbler.

about

The words Quality Time Sound System caught the attention of Gavsborg. Originally a tweet from Manchester based DJ, Joey B. This felt like a fitting title for a collaborative project that has been brewing for months. Inspired by Bobby Konders,Larry Heard & Third World, Gavsborg’s true ‘child of the village’ uses these + more influences that take him through NYC, Chicago & Detroit, meeting in Kingston with roots firmly planted in West Africa.

Quality Time Sound System, a musical project of friends and family. This two track, 15+ minutes of 115 bpm fun took shape after being introduced by ‘Riddim Writer’ to ‘Kumina’ drummer, Nicholas Allen. Kumina, generally acknowledged as coming directly from West Africa, runs deep with ceremonies, rituals, specific dances, drumming, clothing, non-patois utterances & songs of uncertain origin.

After attending a Kumina ceremony Gavsborg was buzzing with inspiration when he met up with German record producer, Mark Ernestus and shared some of the Kumina experiences. The pair journeyed through many discussions including one about house music from New York based DJ, Bobby Konders. This conversation brought Konders’ 1990 House Rhythms into perspective as it involved a wonderful collage of Jamaican chants and spoken word.

Joined by different musicians, Gavsborg collaborates with one of his hometown heroes, the legendary Franklyn “Bubbler“ Waul (Keyboard) as well as Nicholas Allen (Percussion), Delroy “Pele” Hamilton (Bass), Nicholas Groskoph (Guitar) & Shanique Marie (Vocals).
